Gear Review: BlueField Gaiters

Today we're looking at the BlueField Leg Gaiters (inexpensive waterproof protection for your boots and lower pant legs). We purchased these straight off of amazon, see link below, for about $14, but they are also available from a number of other sources like Walmart. Made of "600D Oxford Cloth" (Polyester, "D" stands for Denier, a measure of thickness), these gaiters weigh 8.82oz and have been treated to become waterproof (unable to located further details on the waterproofing process). Here's a direct link to Amazon (also, we make beer money off these, so if you choose to buy this product, we'd appreciate you using this link so we can continue to grow our product reviews):

We ordered the Large size (17.3in to tops), though the XL would have been nice (18.5in to top). I'm about 6ft tall and I'm glad I didn't go with any shorter gaiters.

The straps at the bottom are fastened with Velcro and can be adjusted if necessary. I didn't change mine from how they arrived. After about 3mi of snowshoe hiking, the straps show minor scratches, but nothing serious.

There is a hook on the edge near the strap that will latch onto your boot laces and hold the top of the gaiter close to your boot. This was great and worked well. Never came loose during our hike.

The hook is right at the base of the velcro, so the velcro opening always is oriented directly forward when wearing them. While it was sometimes a challenge to get the velcro to line up correctly, no snow/water made it into my pants/boots and I could adjust with my gloves on (nice when it was 12F out).

The top cinch-strap feels a little cheap, but worked fine for our day hike. Since there is no real load on these, I expect they will be durable.

Overall:
These get an A since they were inexpensive, durable, kept our legs and boots dry in 6-24in of snow, and made for a fun day hiking up and down a mountain (see Connecticut) in snowshoes. Will let you know when/if I have any issues with these. Again, here's a direct link we'd appreciate you using if you choose to purchase these:
